Chasing Mermaids…

Lying in the secret field, my outstretched arms the pillows for my three cloud dreamers. The sun warms our faces and the long grasses tickle our bare legs. Behind, the tall trees form a dark wall contrasting the bright field beyond. The hedgerows buzz with life as bees and butterflies dance with the wild flowers.

Our gaze floats dreamily with the drifting clouds and our breathing calms as we meditate on the changing forms. Wisps of white tinged with golden light transform into magical creatures above. I alternate watching their blue eyes sparkling with youthful daydreams and floating in my own reverie.

Little fingers point out mermaids swimming across the blue seas. They lazily glide past and merge with the surf. Another finger points. A dragon dives, breathing flames as the sun’s fiery glow burns through. We watch together, breath held, as the dragon retreats to his snowy cave. We breathe as one, eyes roaming the blue, and share the moments as fairy castles rise from the mist and unicorns are born to dance the skies.

And as I slump down at my desk, the stresses of work weighing heavy, I close my eyes and drift back to the secret field. Just for a moment, I escape. Snuggling down in the long grass, I hug my little ones close and together we go chasing mermaids across endless summer skies.

Thank you Julia. This was one of my first posts but still a favourite for the memories it holds. Next time you’re out in that beautiful Northern countryside, take a moment to drift with the clouds and see what pictures they paint for you.
