Review of ‘Oxford Marmalade’ by Lesley Hayes

I don’t usually read short stories but having read Lesley Hayes’ The Oscar Dossier, I knew I would be in for a treat with Oxford Marmalade. This is a delightful collection of intricately connected tales. It flows from one to the next with the seamless ease of a novel and yet each story can be read separately. The writing is cleverly crafted, descriptive, thought provoking and yet easy to read.

Lesley Hayes excels in bringing this complex set of characters to life, as the supporting cast from one story become the stars of the next. The book takes you through a range of emotions as you experience how their paths change and intertwine with a twist of fate or a word unsaid. At the end of the book I was left feeling pleasantly satisfied and yet yearning to know what the next chapter holds for each of the characters. Another masterpiece from the magical weaver of stories.

Always a pleasure Lesley. Reading one of your books is like snuggling on the sofa with a fluffy blanket and big box of expensive chocolates – a comforting, luxurious moment of escapism in my busy life. Warm hugs back at you my beautiful friend.
