What a delightful story! Little Red Bear is a charming character and a fantastic teller of tales. This was one book I couldn’t wait to get, having read about its creation on James Milson’s blog over the last year (you really should visit it if you haven’t already.) As such, I felt like I already knew the loveable but quirky bear and reading about his adventures felt like reminiscing with an old friend. I bought this to read with my daughters but this really is a book suitable for all the family; I am enjoying it just as much as the children.
This is one of those children’s stories that could become a classic. Imagine all your childhood favourites, Winnie the Pooh, Wind in the Willows and the Beatrix Potter books, mix them together add a liberal dose of humour and a sprinkling of Ozarks Mountain Country magic, and you have The Adventures of Little Red Bear. I downloaded the Kindle version but after reading the first couple of stories, I ordered the book. E books are convenient, but I can see myself wanting a real copy to read to my grandchildren when my little ones are all grown up.
These heart-warming stories feature a variety of colourful characters but Little Red Bear is most definitely the star – I’m sure he’ll agree.

Through his tales he teaches about the importance of friendship and being kind to others. Following Red on his adventures you also get an insight into the nature and wildlife of Ozarks Mountain country; a magical mixture of family-friendly, educational fun and adventure. Red is definitely a great role model and teacher, but if he asks you to help him retrieve some honey, best to politely decline and retreat to a safe distance.
I believe this is just the first book of Red’s stories; I will be watching out for the sequel and any other books by James Milson.
“We all need to walk together thru the wheel of life or it stops turning. What you do to and for others comes back to you. Like an echo in the mountains.”
