Nico Laeser is the author of some of my favourite books. His ability to pull the reader into the heart of the story is mesmerising. Each of his books is very different in subject and genre, yet his unique writing style binds them as a collection. Nico’s style seems effortless yet each sentence is crafted to perfection, with beautiful imagery. With each book you’re given layers of a story. The meticulous plot alone is fascinating, but should you care to delve deeper, there is a whole world of hidden meanings to leave the reader thinking. So often I have read a chapter to find out what happens to the character, but then reread it to savour the beautiful writing.
Infinity remains the most thought provoking book I have ever read. I was captivated by the story and awed by the reading experience. I struggled to write a review to do it justice but I strongly recommend you read it and see for yourself.
Skin Cage was the first book I read and is a fascinating introduction to Nico’s writing style. It is a poignant read, a blend of melancholy and hope tied together with love. It’s a lighter read than Infinity but no less complex and thought provoking.
Nico is not just a writer, he’s also a talented composer, musician and artist too. Check out his website to listen to some of the music composed to compliment the book Skin Cage. The music is the perfect accompaniment and evokes the same moods as the story.
Some of Nico’s artwork can be seen on his website but for those who aren’t aware, he painted his own book covers and has supported many fellow authors in designing their own. One of my favourites was for Tracy Black’s ‘Coping Mechanisms’.
‘I love this cover! The sunflower denotes hope, faith, and happiness – the mannequin demonstrates anonymity but it has presence. Quite apt!’
